Guru Gobind Singh Ji, 10th Guru of Sikhs, the founder of the Khalsa Panth sacrificed his whole family to protect the freedom of faith for India against the suppressive policy of Mughal Rules. When Guru ji at the age of 9 years,  request his father, Guru Teg Bahadur to sacrifice his life to protect the Kashmiri Pandits against forcible conversions after over- hearing the dialogue between Guru Teg Bahadur Ji and the Pandit Deligation from Srinagar.

After the tragic but noble martyrdom of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji, Guru Gobind Singh Ji became 10th Guru of Sikhs. He fought many battels against hill Rajas and Mughals. All Hill Rajas wanted to capture Quila Anandpur Sahib. With the help of Subedar Sirhind the forces of Hill Rajas, savagely laid siege to the fortress. The siege continued for many month.  The clever enemy forces made an offer to Guru Ji to leave the fortress on the sworn undertaking that they would not attack to any Sikh and his family. Guru Gobind Singh ji was initially declined their offer, but after requesting by Sikhs Guru Ji accepted the offer. But the forces of Mughals and Hill Rajas, in contravention of the promises made in the name of God, attacked the Guru and his family and followers while they were crossing the flooded Sirsa river. In this attack the family of Guru Ji was separated. Guru Gobind Singh Ji, his two elder son Baba Ajit Singh Ji and Baba Jujhar Singh Ji and many Sikhs reached Chamkaur Sahib. Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh, Mata Gujri Ji with Gangu brahmin reached at village Kheri. Gangu was a  cook for the Guru’s family .

After crossing the River Sirsa, Mata Gujjar Kaur jee and youngest Sahibzaadey spent a night in the hut of Bhai Kumma jee Maashki (boatman), known also as Kareema Mallaah. Mata jee’s mule had carried some important articles and ornaments. The Sikh accompanying them got separated from them due to floods and bad weather during darkness of night. 

Gangu used to be devotee of the Guru’s House for 16 years. He was also called ‘Gangu Rasoiah’. Mata Gujari Ji and chote Sahibzade, alongwith Gangu, moved towards Village Kheri (Now known as Saheri). On the way, Gangu came to know that Mata Gujari Ji has Gold coins. Greed was in his mind, began to think how to steal these gold coins. When Mata Ji and younger Sahibjade were sleeping, then Gangu steals these coins (mohar). Mata Ji had relized that Gangu has got lured.

Next morning Mata Gujri Ji asked Gangu about Gold coins. Gangu said that i gave you stay in my house and you are charging me for theft. He went to Police Station Morinda.  Baba Zorawar Singh jee, along with Baba Fateh Singh jee and their grandmother, were taken into custody by Jani Khan and Mani Khan Ranghar, the police official of Morinda. After this they were sent to Sirhind and detained in Thanda Buraj (Cold Tower). They were stay at the top of the tower. There was no wall to protect them from the winter cold & chill of December. The young children did not even have any extra cloth to protect them from the winter. Nawab of Sirhind order that no one coooprate with Mata Ji and chhote sahibzade.  Bhai Moti Raam jee, who served food to prisoners, milked his cow he had at home and filled a bowl and brought it to drink for Mata jee and the Sahibzaadey. Knowing that their would be high security around the Thandaa Burj. For this he was give silver coins to guards as a bribe. He assured Mata jee that as a sincere devotee of Guru jee he had brought the milk from his own home and from his own income. Mata jee and the Sahibzaadey happily drank the milk and thanked him for his seva. For this selfless seva Bhai Moti Ram Ji and their whole family were given the punishment of being crushed in Kohlu.

The next day Baba Zorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh were produce in the court of Subedar nawab Wajir Khan. Wazir Khan made a lot of efforts to make younger Sahibjade as Muslims. Dewan Sucha Nand also tried. But Sahibzade remained firm on their religion. Wazir Khan tried to lure the Sahibzaadey to embrace Islam with promises of riches and honours, but they spurned the suggestion. He then threatened them with death, but they remained undaunted.

Death sentenced finally pronounced by quazi. Sher Muhammad Khan, who is Nawab of Malerkotla did not agree with death sentenced. He requested the Subedar to leave the children. But Subedar of Sirhind did not listen to him.

A ‘fatwa’, religious edict, was issued by quazi for the Sahibjadey to be bricked and sealed alive in a wall. Sahibjade were not afraid of death at all. They said in court ” pehla maran kbul jiwan ki chad aas || hohu sabna ke renuka tau aao hmare pass.”  After sentenced of death Baba Jorawar Singh and Baba Fateh Singh Ji had came back to Mata Gujri Ji.

Whole night they listening to Gurbaani and the huddling around their beloved grandmother. Mata Ji told them, about their granfather’s sacrifice and martyre of Guru Arjan Dev Ji. the next day the soldiers came to take them. Mata Gujri Ji dressed to both and did a lot of love.

Baba Zorawar Singh jee and Baba Fateh Singh jee were bricked alive, tortured by having their ligaments cut where it came in the way of the wall, and then suffocated in the sealed wall. The aged Mata Gujjar Kaur jee who had all along been kept in the Cold Tower, only a little distance away, breathed her last while joined in the Simran (remembrance) of Waheguru, as the news reached her ears.

    Do you know by the name of Jorawar and Fateh Singh there is two villages jurawnpur and fatehpur in my district vaishali of Bihar which is nerby Patna sahib.
