1.”IDBI Bank has been categorized as a ‘private sector bank’ for regulatory purposes by Reserve Bank of India with effect from January 21, 2019 consequent upon LIC acquiring 51 per cent of the total paid-up equity share capital of the bank,” RBI said in a statement.

In January, LIC completed the process of picking up a controlling 51 per cent stake in the nearly crippled IDBI Bank.

2.The first meeting between India and Pakistan experts to discuss the modalities and draft agreement for facilitation of pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Kartarpur Sahib was held today in a “cordial environment”.

Addressing a media briefing after the talks got over, home ministry joint secretary SCL Das, said that the government had placed three demands before the Pakistani delegation.

Among the three demands was that Pakistan allow at least 5,000 pilgrims to visit to the Gurdwara on a daily basis and that on special days, such as Gurpurab, baisakhi etc, it let as many as 10,000 pilgrims visit the shrine. The Indian government has also asked Pakistan to allow the Indian pilgrims, including non-resident Indians, visa free access to the Gurdwara and that if any pilgrims so desired, they be allowed to visit the shrine on foot.

3. Exercise Sampriti-VIII, a joint Indo-Bangladesh military exercise which witnessed participation of a company group of 9th Battalion the Rajputana Rifles from the Indian Army and the Company of 36 East Bengal Battalion, Bangladesh Army concluded at Tangail, Bangladesh on 14 March 2019.

4.The Supreme Court, which was instrumental in appointing an ombudsman for the Board for Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) last month, devised mediation as a novel way of solving minor disputes between the Board and state cricket associations.

Enforcing this rule from Thursday, a bench of Justices SA Bobde and AM Sapre appointed the amicus curiae senior advocate PS Narasimha as the mediator and referred all disputes pertaining to release of funds and membership existing between state boards and BCCI to him.

5.The Reserve Bank of India will infuse further liquidity into the markets, this time using a tool designed to swap dollar inflows with rupee funds. While the central bank does infuse rupee liquidity when it buys excess dollars from the market, it is now committing to infuse a specific amount of funds for a pre-determined period of time.

The RBI will conduct long-term ‘Buy/Sell’ swaps for converting dollars to rupee, it said a notification issued late on Tuesday

6. A social entrepreneur from  Tamil Nadu on Wednesday bagged the Commonwealth Youth Award for the Asian region from among hundreds of nominations for his Technology based food rescue organisation.

Padmanaban Gopalan, founder of No Food Waste, was named the winner of the award worth 3,000 pounds at a ceremony at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London for his work towards achieving the UN’s Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) of  Zero Hunger with his innovative system of recovering excess food to distribute to those in need.

7.The Government has appointed Mr Kumar as the Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation (LIC).
